"After seeking blessings at the spectacular Golden Temple at Amritsar, I decided to plunge headlong into my quest to seek the higher realms of harmony and tranquility. Having embarked on a soul-searching journey, a visit to the magnificent Himalayas was a must-do. I set off to conquer the mountains of Manali, revving up my sole, trusted companion – my Scorpio Vlx.Passing through the scenic plains and mustard fields on NH1, I made my way north towards Batala Road. Making a quick stopover for fuel, I moved into NH15. The 100 odd kilometers to Pathankot was my first leg of the journey and I cruised past it smoothly. Pulling over at Pathankot, I stopped by a dhaba to pick up some hot paranthas and lassi. Thus fueling up, I headed towards NH20. It was when I reached Shahapur that I came across buses packed with peace-loving Tibetan monks, travelling along my route. With my curiosity piqued, I stopped and enquired with some locals about them. It was then that I was introduced to a place called ‘Mcleodganj’. It was right on my way with only a slight detour off the town of Rait. An exceptional opportunity opened up in front of me and I grabbed it head-on. Mcleodganj it was! Mcleodganj is a small suburb of the Dharamshala in the district of Kangra up in the hilly terrain of Himachal Pradesh. An average elevation of this beautiful place would be anywhere between 6700 to 6900 feet – No sweat for the Mighty Scorpio. This place has the amazing tenacity to soothe even the most tired souls. It locales are rigid but yet fun to drive. Not too many destinations across India offer such a un-explored’ territory for you to conquer. With amazing traction and great handing of the Scorpio even the toughest of terrains seemed so simple. Truly admire the engineering behind the built quality of the Scorpio. Swirling thru the twists & turns, exploring newer horizons coupled with that relinquishing cup of hot coffee at the side walk was truly an once-in-a-lifetime experience. This place truly has more to offer than what meets the eye.Veering off the highway a little ahead of Rait on MDR 44, I moved with much gusto towards the Dauladhar Range. The cool, pristine air and acres of green foliage around made it a delightful drive. Of course, the winding pathways up the mountain could only be handled by a Mahindra which was the only kind of 4X4 I saw everywhere.Mcleodganj or Little Lhasa is a balm for the weary soul. I embraced the calmness of the place as I made my way through what I first thought was Tibet! A haven for Tibetan immigrants, Mcleodganj is known for Tibetan handicrafts, carpets and Thangkas. It is home to the Dalai Lama’s temple and other Tibetan monasteries and libraries.Settling down to a piping hot cup of tea at Moon Light Café, I reflect on this journey and hope to find my inner peace at 6831 feet above sea level."
