"This is not a trail for the faint hearted. A five and half hour journey on undulating roads and Ghats can leave many road-sick. I suggest you pack for this only in company of those who want to experience driving through Lower Himalayas as this is not just another drive through the countryside. You will climb a maximum of 7,450 feet during this 89 km trek. Even though this drive is not the toughest, some travelers take sick in the first 20 km making it possible to return to civilization quickly enough. Our trail began at Bagdogra, Siliguri and traveled along NH31C till Tenzing Norge junction where we turned left on to Hill Cart Road to Kurseong. As the name suggests, this is nothing but a Hill Cart path. Complete absence of asphalt makes it a dream to traverse thick Sub-Himalayan jungles in a trusty Scorpio. The road remains straight and passes many villages for the first 20-odd Km before hitting the twists. This is where you need to be in sync with your machine and not lose sight of anything. As the locals would warn you, landslides are common around here and one just needs to be cautious all the time. There is nothing for the next 60 km to Kurseong but the tight snaky mountain track that steadily climbs for most of the distance. There are some sections of steep climbs where I could really test the power of my Scorpio’s mHawk engine. Have to thank the diesel torque as it kept me out of any trouble. You will have to pack food and water for this run as there is nothing at any point. We made plenty of stops to take in the nature and stock up on pictures of this lovely road that’s hardly ever used."
